Catching up on Day 5 of #the100dayproject with a 1-2 punch tip for Day 6: So, you've got your website, it loads quickly (see the tip in my last post), now I want you to think about the first thing that your website visitor sees...before any scrolling or clicking. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your visitor should see two things:
1) a stunning visual 
2) your brand's "elevator pitch." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Visual tip: The image (also known as a banner image) should be eye-catching, captivating, and do one or all of the following: show off your beautiful space where your clients can expect to receive services, display the people of your business (i.e., your team and/or your clients), and what you do (spa and skin treatments, hair styling, massages, barre classes, etc.). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Elevator Pitch" tip: Don't leave your website visitors guessing on whether you're the place for them. Your visual will do some of the communicating for you, but having a simple 1-2 sentence pitch that tells your visitor what you do, who you do it for and why will quickly tell your reader whether they've found what they're looking for and get them to scroll and click further. Remember, the only goal of the first sentence is to get them to read the next one! #100daysofwebsitetips

It loads super slowwwww. So your potential clients who have taken the step to click on your site don't even get the chance to be wowed by your homepage. Don't let that happen!

To test your site speed, I love gtmetrix.com, which will analyze your load time and give you suggestions on how to remedy it if it's too slow. One of the recommendations you may get is to switch to a faster server and/or host, in which case I highly suggest Squarespace, which takes care of being both server and host for your site. #simplicity ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So, in the case of your website, why do you need and want to have a website? That might sound like a ridiculous question (doesn't every business need a website?) Well, yes...however, knowing the "why" behind your website will help drive the strategy of your site and the content you share. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For example, here some reasons why you might have a website and how you'll use those to drive your site strategy:

So, typically when creating a website, the first choice you have to make is which platform you’ll build on. There are a variety of platforms to choose from; however, for salon, spa and studio owners, your best choices are Squarespace and Wordpress. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Both have proven themselves to be reliable for building a top-quality website, not to mention, have the best features and tools to allow you to create a gorgeous + professional site. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pros to SS: Very user-friendly drag-and-drop style design creator with beautiful templates to choose from, little to no coding knowledge required, and no need for extra plug-ins or security tools, all you need is Squarespace (they host and provide support for your site as well). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cons SS: For those with super specific design requirements and customizations, Squarespace can have slight limitations, and you need a little bit more working knowledge of SEO to ensure you’re taking the right steps to get your site ranked. (More SEO tips coming in future days. )

Pros to WP: You can create just about any website you can envision on Wordpress. It’s highly customizable, easy to see that you’re on the right track with SEO (using the Yoast plugin), and is ideal for heavy content creators. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cons to WP: Lots of updating and additional plug-ins needed, can be a steep learning curve for the non-techy biz owner, support has to come through your website hosting company (i.e., the site you buy your website URL from). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Overall, for any spa, salon or studio owner looking for a beautiful site that provides a seamless experience, requires little maintenance and outsourcing, and that works for you like an employee on autopilot, Squarespace is the top choice.
